Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology announces the "6th Annual Genesis Competition", a regional visual communications competition for high school students with creative skills and interests in illustration, multimedia or photography. The purpose is to discover, recognize and reward teen artists who have the potential for successful careers in visual communications. If you like to take pictures, draw, paint, design websites or create displays, this contest is your chance to find where those talents can lead you. Genesis is sponsored by the Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology’ Visual Communications Technologies Division. As the title of the contest implies, this is a coming into being event created to give you a chance for a fulfilling career in visual communications. It's a talent search for the best young artists, photographers, and designers in the region. Also, it's an opportunity for someone like you to discover the premier design school in Oklahoma with faculty who can help you shape your gifts into an amazing set of tools that will start you on a challenging professional path.
looking for a wide variety of creative work. In Illustration, entries can be color or black & white. Subcategories include "dry media" such as graphite, pen and ink, scratchboard, chalk, charcoal or printmaking. "Wet media" includes watercolor, acrylic, oil, gouache, and digital media. In Photography, entries can be black and white or color pictures of people, places, things or portraits. In multimedia, entries build an original animation/motion graphic entry using "My Life" as the theme or design and produce an original music video with original lyrics and music or design and build an original website using "Alternative Energy" as your subject matter. In Graphic Design, entries can be logos, trademarks, advertisements, magazines, yearbooks, newsletters, newspapers, signs, posters, billboards or brochures.
If you've worked on your school, newspaper or yearbook, designed advertising pieces, logos and other graphics for print, attended computer technology or art classes, you probably have some excellent work or skills ut use for the Genesis Competition. We're looking for examples that show creativity and passion.
The web site links have all the information you need to enter the "2009 Genesis Competition." Deadline for entries is February 27, 2009. Entries postmarked after February 27, 2009 may not be considered for the Genesis Competition. Students currently enrolled in public or private school grades 9-12 are invited to submit published or unpublished work in any category. You may enter up to four pieces and the fee is $10 per person. Additional pieces can be entered for $2.50 each. All entries must be accompanied by payment. Entry fees are non-refundable. We accept checks, money orders and bank transfers. NO CASH ACCEPTED. There are no additional handling or publication fees. Checks for the total amount of fees should be made payable to OSUIT Genesis Competition. All checks must be in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank. Attach payment to Entry Fee Form, enclose in an envelope, and place on top of the entries inside the first package.
Gold, Silver, Merit and Best of Show Awards include scholarship offers to attend OSUIT's Visual Communications programs with A.A.S. degrees upon graduation. Other cool prizes are also awarded. The "Genesis Competition" will conclude with a special celebration at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology Friday, April 3, 2009.
